Steady weight gain is one of the signs that your baby is healthy and feeding well. Going on a diet is a difficult thing to do in the summer. As the days get hotter, the treats in your fridge get even tastier; especially if you're a fan of the traditional summer junk foods — ice creams and other sugary frozen foods. Add to that the fact that it's too warm outside to go for a run, and you know you might end up piling on a few pounds during the season. So if you want to continue on your weight loss journey and get that beach body before your next bachelors-only beach vacation , you're going to have to figure out how to lose weight stat. Luckily for you, we did some digging of our own and found some answers.
Lace up first thing and you'll increase your odds of exercising today threefold. A study of 500 people at the Mollen Clinic, a preventive medicine and wellness center in Scottsdale, Arizona, found that 75 percent of those who worked out in the morning did so regularly, compared with just half the afternoon exercisers and a quarter of the post-work crowd. "At the beginning of the day, you have the fewest excuses for skipping exercise," says clinic founder Arthur Mollen, DO. Not waking up early enough, of course, is the main one. "Limit using the snooze button to only five minutes so that you don't fall into a deep sleep again," Dr. Mollen advises. Bonus! You'll go to work feeling focused: A recent study at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign found that 20 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise improved concentration, reading comprehension, and cognitive function.
This everyday flavor enhancer may actually be a serious fat-fighter, as one animal-tested study found that a component in black pepper called piperine helps stop the formation of mature fat cells. While it's not a surefire way to lose weight, topping your meals with pepper — instead of water-retaining salt — is a good bet for your health. Buy the whole black peppercorns and grind them up in a pepper grinder at home to keep the compounds in tact and reap all the health benefits.
French superstar chef Michel Guérard is famous not just for his fantastically refined food but for something that seems wholly at odds with fine dining: weight loss. At his deeply chic manor-house hotel in Gascony, Guérard combines a delicious, low-calorie diet with sculpting treatments using sulphur- and magnesium-enriched water from the nearby hot spring. In between trips to the spa there is time to exercise with a personal trainer. It all feels very doable and therefore easier to maintain later, as does the calorie-controlled diet. The food is limited, but mouthwatering. A three-course lunch of tangy white-bean and tomato salad with soft pear followed by sea bass in a vegetable-and-herb tea is just over 500 calories. And that includes the chocolate-cream pudding.
