Eating fats to lose weight may seem counterintuitive, but if you know which fats to eat, you can increase your weight loss. You don't have to earn" your health. Do you have to concentrate and focus and spend time with it? Yes, of course. But you can work WITH, instead of against your body. You don't have to deplete yourself of all energy to lose weight, you don't have to exercise for hours on end trying to 'burn off fat.' Killing yourself for hours in the gym or doing cardio is an utter waste of time. Let me repeat: it's an utter waste of time.

I'll probably be weighing myself every day for the rest of my life. (Note to Google: Please don't kill Docs !) I thought about cutting down to once a week, but I want that 10-day moving average, so I still do it daily. It takes all of 20 seconds, right after I wake up. The scale is in my closet, so I stand on it as I find clothes for the day. I usually remember my weight and enter it in as I settle into my desk at work, though now that Google Docs is mobile, sometimes I do it on my phone. Some Mondays, if I haven't pulled out my computer over the weekend, I'll enter three days worth of figures at once.
Milk combines horribly with just about everything, while supplying vastly too much calcium and not enough magnesium. Cow's milk is completely absent in Asian diets. Other cultures such as Jewish kosher rules recognized thousands of years ago that milk products should be eaten apart from other foods. If you just can't give up cow's milk, at the very least don't ignore the tenet of food combining. Combining the wrong foods, i.e., dairy, slows down gut motility to a snail's pace, the exact opposite of what is best for healthy digestion. Replacements for cow's milk are easier than ever today with the arrival of convenient cartons of almond, coconut, rice or organic soy milk.
Wake Between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. The classics of Ayurveda recommend that we rise during the ambrosial hours" of the morning, sometime between 3-6 a.m. 7 This is a vata time of day. The atmosphere is infused with lightness and clarity, which helps us to awaken more easily, but it is also easier to connect with our deepest inner nature and consciousness at this time. 8 Waking early helps to shake kapha's characteristic heaviness from the mind and body, infuses us with the clarifying energy of dawn, and supports a healthy metabolic capacity.
