Losing Weight in France - Revisited I'm guest posting at Mademoiselle Slimalicious , retelling the story of how I got motivated to lose weight after moving to France. To weigh in, I had to get my son to take pictures of me and a video of me getting on the scale and showing my weight. This was not a pleasant thing to do at all but is a necessary part of holding myself accountable AND without doing it, I wouldn't know how to get paid for losing weight. So, it's done.
However, we feel that the weaknesses outlined above were amply counterbalanced by various strengths. Our study was nationwide, community‐based, and it comprised both women and men with excellent participation rates. Our follow‐up time was 10 years, a sufficient amount of time to address meaningful weight change during young adulthood. Finally, the last wave of data collection took place recently: thus our findings are relevant for young adults today.
In fact, Finns may spend even more time in the sauna than they do exercising. While most Finns visit a sauna at least once a week, only about half of Finnish men and a third of Finnish women between 18 and 65 meet the World Health Organization exercise guidelines , which recommend the equivalent of 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity five days a week. The Finnish researchers suggest that saunas may provide some cardiovascular conditioning because the high temperatures can drive heart rates to levels often achieved by moderate-intensity physical exercise.
Recently, 2 systematic reviews concluded that increased water consumption may have a beneficial role in weight management and obesity prevention ( 17 , 18 ). In our review, we were able to identify 11 original studies compared with 2 and 5 studies, respectively, in these 2 reviews. A reason for this difference may be that we focused on one research question. The previous reviews simultaneously investigated the effects of a variety of beverages, such as soft drinks and coffee, or studied also the short-term effect on energy intake. Both reviews applied less comprehensive search strategies to identify relevant studies. They did not report a systematic search of an electronic database or searched only one and included only articles in the English language. In contrast, we performed an extensive literature search applying several search methods. We searched 4 electronic databases in 4 major publication languages without any limits to publication year.
