I had you at the title didn't I? The researchers enrolled the 2010 patients from the Swedish Obese Subjects study who had received bariatric surgery and 2037 obese controls receiving conventional (non-surgical) obesity treatment. They were assessed for BMI and diabetes at baseline (before surgery in the surgical group), and at two and 10 year follow-up.

So, what do the French eat? In short, French women (and men) eat the very best food that they can afford and they eat whatever they enjoy but in moderation. Not simple enough for you? Let's look at this principle a little closer and see how you can apply it to your lifestyle.

This can go two ways. Either you're eating too little, or you are eating too much. Everyone has a certain number of calories they need" in order to maintain daily function (get out of bed and get through the day). However, if you are on a weight loss program, and you start eating too little for too long, your body will plateau. For example, if you are on a plan eating exactly 1200 calories every day for 3 months, you might be doing more harm than good. You will likely need to asses your caloric intake and readjust and cycle your calories.
At lunch I made sure not to overdo it with the pulled pork leftovers, and made myself a small, nice looking plate of food. I even wiped down the edges of my plate after taking the dish out of the microwave (to clean off the splatter) and felt like Gordon Ramsey would be proud of me. Or at least wouldn't look at me with contempt and call me a "donkey" or " an idiot sandwich" Savoring my food throughout the day made me feel like I was eating more, even though when I looked at my normal habits, I was definitely eating less. I was very aware of how much time it takes to eat your food with intention, and honestly, how hard it is as a woman with kids to do this. I was constantly bombarded by a baby that wanted to be held or a toddler who needed her hands wiped or a preschooler who couldn't find his shoes. Mindful eating is definitely important, but it's also damn hard to do when you've got kids around.
